Do I need to pay to be on the team?
Like most clubs, there are member dues that you need to pay for each semester. Competitive team members pay $50, while recreational team members play $25. These pay for things like tennis balls, match fees, gas to go to matches for those who drive us, team uniforms and shirts (partial), etc.
Do I need to bring a racquet?
You should have your own racquet, all though if you don't have one, don't worry about it. We can lend you one on a short term basis.
What do you do at these practices?
Practice usually lasts for an hour and a half and we try do a little bit of everything. We'll do some conditioning, some drills, some games, and some matches at the end of practice if time allows.
When does the competitive team play their matches?
Matches are held mostly on Saturday, and once in a very rare while, on Sunday. On match day, be prepared to spend pretty much the entire day, so check out the schedule and see if you can get time off work in advance.
What is the USTA and why do you have their logo on your website?
USTA stands for United States Tennis Association. NIU Club Tennis plays matches against other schools in a league that is organized by the USTA's Tennis On Campus program. The Midwest and National championships that bring universities and colleges from across the country together to play are also sanctioned by the USTA.
Are graduate students allowed to be in this club?
